After Effects Layer Styles are compatible with Photoshop. Although there are some limitations*. You can import the Layer Styles/Blending Options of your Photoshop Layers in to After Effects and animate them including the Pattern Overlay
When importing a photoshop layer in After Effects a popup will appear.
Under Layer Options select: Editable Layer Styles.

Pattern Overlay is only supported for photoshop layers that have a Pattern Overlay in their Blending Options from Photoshop. So unfortunately you can not add them in After Effects. However in Photoshop you can!
In Photoshop **right click**
